Mother-to-mother support for breastfeeding (Australia):

The national helpline of the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) can provide you with details of your nearest ABA group where you can meet other breastfeeding mothers and be part of a supportive group.

While lactation consultants are the trouble-shooters in the breastfeeding field with specialist skills, the support of other mothers has been shown to be of value in enabling mothers to meet their breastfeeding goals.  Research shows that combining both professional help and mother-to-mother support is more beneficial than using just one mode. The ABA helpline can be accessed anywhere in Australia 24/7  for the cost of a local call. 1800 mum 2 mum (1800 686 268).

Mother-to-mother support for breastfeeding (New Zealand):

La Leche League New Zealand is the long-established local association of La Leche League International. "La Leche" means "the milk" and as the words are originally Spanish, "Leche" is pronounced as 2 syllables, "lay-chay".

All meetings and telephone support are provided by mothers who have specially trained as Leaders with La Leche League.  For information about local contacts and meetings in your area, contact lalechelleague.org.nz .
